The One About Matthew Perry

A beautifully done documentary that allows us not only to get to know the actor, but also the brother, the friend, the partner, the boyfriend, the son, and, above all, the person behind it all. It's an honest portrayal of the ups and downs that made his life not only memorable and beautiful at times, but sadly tragic in the end. It doesn't attempt to sugarcoat his human experience or shy away from the difficult parts of his story. Instead, it gives the people who actually knew him the space to share with us who he really was. By the end, I found myself feeling sad for what his future could have held had certain things not happened throughout his life, and had certain people not been part of his journey. But there's little we can do other than appreciate and embrace the fragile truth of his human condition — one that we all experience in different ways. Rather than judging, I found myself appreciating, reflecting, and learning. Thank you, Matthew, for your talent, your art, and your ability to connect with people in such an honest way. And above all, thank you for being our friend — our Chandler Bing, our Matthew Perry.
